Krisis kebuluran dan bencana yang menimpa rakyat Somalia mendapat perhatian warga Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) apabila sejumlah RM 16,865.85 berjaya dikumpul hasil sumbangan daripada warga UMP.

Atas dasar keprihatinan terhadap bencana ini, UMP menyumbang sebanyak 12 ribu termasuk masing-masing seribu daripada Badan Kebajikan & Sukan Staf (BKSS) UMP dan Persatuan Wanita UMP (Matahari).

Warga universiti turut menunjukkan komitmen dan rasa tangguangjawab untuk meringankan beban mangsa kemanusiaan Somalia dengan membuat sumbangan sebanyak RM 4665.85 yang diselaraskan oleh Pusat Islam & Pembangunan Insan (PIMPIN).

Sumbangan daripada pihak UMP dilakukan oleh Naib Canselor UMP, Profesor Dato' Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim kepada Pengurus Jualan NSTP Cawangan Pantai Timur, Fauzi Abdul Hamid, dalam satu majlis yang diadakan di UMP pada 28 Disember 2011 yang lalu.
